42 Lessons Life Taught Me at 42

One of the great things about having a birthday right in the middle of the holidays/at the end of the year, is I get to do all of my reflection and resetting at once. And, since today is my 43rd birthday, I wanted to share with you 42 Things Life Taught Me at 42. So, here it goes:

  1. Everything is temporary.
  2. Nothing beats a consistent morning routine.
  3. Everyone likes paella (even if its vegan) and it makes a great dish when hosting your 192 million family members.
  4. Life is too short not to be happy.
  5. Thoughts become things.
  6. The most important person to impress is yourself.
  7. Meditation fixes a lot of things. So does therapy. Both are great.
  8. Tapas definitely count as a meal.
  9. It’s okay to ask for help.
  10. Not giving up on yourself is the key to success.
  11. Find people who celebrate your wins. And make sure to also celebrate theirs.
  12. Friendships end, it’s not the end of the world.
  13. My mom was right about most things.
  14. 3 going on 30 is a reallllll thing.
  15. Alone time > everything else.
  16. Rest when you are tired.
  17. Ask for what you want and believe you deserve it.
  18. Pray, journal, meditate. Find a way to connect with yourself.
  19. Gratitude is the most productive emotion.
  20. Tell the people in your life you love them.
  21. It’s okay to say no.
  22. Just because you still love them doesn’t mean you have to give them your time.
  23. Who you are is exactly enough.
  24. You shouldn’t “hate” any areas of your life. If you don’t like something, change it.
  25. Your heart may get broken. You will be okay.
  26. If you take a day off, the world won’t end.
  27. Good friends will carry you when you most need it.
  28. You can and you will (if you want to).
  29. Progress not perfection.
  30. Let go of what you can’t control.
  31. You matter. A lot.
  32. Removing “can’t” from your vocabulary will change your life.
  33. Happiness looks good on everyone.
  34. Apologize when you are wrong.
  35. Tomorrow is a new day.
  36. People show you who they really are.
  37. You teach people how to treat you.
  38. Experiences > Things
  39. Start your day with three things you are grateful for everyday and your mindset will shift.
  40. Wearing lipstick cheers me up.
  41. Eat your veggies, trust me, you’ll feel better.
  42. Let go of the idea you had for your life and enjoy the present moment.
