DIY: Farmhouse Sign

May 21, 2018

Hey Friends!

Since so many of you asked, I put together a quick how to video about the family sign I made on my Trading Spaces episode. This is such a great project because you can customize it to say anything, it’s pretty easy and it doesn’t cost much to make. Some tips: Just make sure you let the sign dry overnight before you start peeling off the paper. I made that mistake the first time I made a sign and it was a complete mess. Also, the bolder your font.. the better.

Take a look below and if you make one, don’t forget to post a picture and tag me in it, so I can see your masterpiece! Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below.

xo – Sabrina

P.S. Remember to print a Mirror Image or Flip Horizontally in your printer settings, so the ink is face down when you apply it to the painted board.

What size the frame? what kind of paint? What kind of style font styles script letter sticker to printing? your video did not have a closed captioning. if you mind explaining how to make the farmhouse sign?

Hi! Sorry about that! Size of frame was 30×40 with regular acrylic paint. The font size was different, depending on the text. I used my home ink jet printer to print them out.

    Hi Sabrina,

What type of wood did you use and what was the size (of the sign in the trading spaces episode)? I have the words printed and ready to go!

    Thanks!

I believe the wood was 30×40 and the wood was just a smooth piece of poplar.

the size was 30×40 and the lettering size was different for each line. I would play around with what looks best, depending on what you are printing.

well we used acrylic paint, ink jet printer at home and matte modge podge-
when we tried to peel off the paper- most cam off but not all- it left just enough to make the letters a very light gray.
and the Modge Podge remained shiny anywhere it was brushed beyond the letters.
tried it twice- both times no luck
    very sad

Me again…. getting ready to begin my sign project. When you apply the mod podge over the letters, and remove it after dry – will you see the mod podge where it was used on the board? Is a coat of mod podge used over the entire PIECE when done?? Thank you!

At least four times a week, I take Harper on a 3 mile hike in the canyon. Every time someone stops me to ask about her, what breed she is, her age... and I tell them that she’s 11, they seem shocked. It’s always followed with a “Wow, she’s still this energetic?” I’ve honestly never thought about it before but is it OK for a dog at this age to exercise that much, that frequently!? 🐶 ❤️
